In 1915 the "Consorzio Approvvigionamenti Metallurgici e Meccanici" (“Metal and Mechanical Procurement Consortium”) was set up to handle the raw material procurement needs of its members.
At the end of the 1930’s the business’s activities were expanded to include the distribution of liquid energy products.
In the early 1950’s, Silvio Tronchetti Provera, at that time a manager of the Falck Group, started to manage the Consortium as an administrator on behalf of the Falck Group.
In 1965 Silvio Tronchetti Provera who, in the meantime had become a company shareholder, was appointed Chairman.
In the early 1970’s, following the worldwide oil crisis and the increased price of oil, it was decided that energy should become the company’s core business.
In the early 1980’s, the Tronchetti Provera family acquired control of the company. In the same period the company was reorganized and Camfin S.p.A. became the financial front-end company while Cam Energia and Calore S.p.A. were to act as the operating companies. The company, a full fledged holding at this point, is now considered a real player in the Italian financial scene.
In July, 1986 Camfin is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.
In 1994 Camfin sales its industrial raw materials division and begins to focus solely on the energy sector and its investment in Pirelli&C.
Today, the Camfin Group is Pirelli & C. and Prelios S.p.A. largest shareholder and is also active in the development of environmentally friendly technologies through its affiliate Pirelli & C. Ambiente S.p.A. and Pirelli & C. Eco Technology S.p.A..
